The financial health of Westminster College was awarded an A- grade on the 2023 College Financial Grades report issued by Forbes, signaling the institution’s solid financial footing.
Westminster was one of 97 schools to receive an A- in the report, which assigns financial grades to colleges across the country. Forbes measured the balance sheet health and operating strength of 906 not-for-profit colleges that have a full-time enrollment of more than 500 students.
Westminster is one of only 23 schools from Pennsylvania—and one of six from Western Pennsylvania—that achieved an A-range grade. About 20% of the colleges analyzed earned a C or worse.
The publication used 2020-2021 data from the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics, looking at the following components when developing its reports: endowment assets, primary reserve ratio, viability ratio, core operating margin, tuition as a percentage of core revenues, return on assets, admissions yield, percent of freshmen receiving grant aid and instruction expenses per full-time student.
In Forbes’ 2021 financial grade report, Westminster was named to its Top 10 Achievers list for making a strong financial comeback since receiving a C- minus grade in 2016.
