Westminster faculty members granted promotions, tenure

The Westminster College Board of Trustees approved faculty promotions and tenure at its recent February meeting.

Faculty members earning the rank of associate professor are Dr. Jamie Chapman, sociology; Dr. Jessica Sarver, chemistry; and Summer Zickefoose, fine art. All were also granted tenure along with Dr. René Picó, associate professor of education.

Chapman, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2014, earned a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in social sciences from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She went on to earn her doctorate in sociology from the University of Akron. Chapman specializes in studying mental health and the social institution of the family.

Sarver, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2016, earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Penn State Behrend and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to General Chemistry, she teaches Biophysical Chemistry, Quantum Chemistry, and Thermodynamics and Kinetics.

Zickefoose, an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture, ceramics, installation, and performance art, joined the Westminster College art faculty in 2010. She received degrees in both Art History and Studio Art from the University of Iowa in 2000 and earned her MFA in Multimedia Art and Ceramics from the University of Florida in 2004.

Picó joined the faculty in 2017. He holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences and engineering, an M.Ed. in bilingual and multicultural studies, and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction, all from Pennsylvania State University.
