Internship: Gilbane Building Company

Describe your internship.

My internship was with Gilbane Building Company, where I worked in the sales and marketing department from May to August 2021. I worked closely with my supervisor and was given the ability to get creative and explore different routes in the marketing world. I assisted with the revamp of documents, helped prepare marketing materials like signs and booklets for a golf tournament, worked on an intern blog, conducted an Instagram intern takeover and had the opportunity to visit job sites. I worked daily with industry-standard programs such as InDesign, Illustrator and Excel.

Where was your internship?

Boston

How did you hear about this opportunity?

My dad caught wind of the internship and thought it would be something I’d be interested in. From there I applied and went through multiple phone interviews before getting the internship. Once I started I also got to know Westminster alumna Courtney Behm ’01, assistant director of global sales and marketing at the Gilbane Building Company.

How did Westminster’s curriculum prepare you for the internship?

I had taken multiple marketing classes and creative design classes with heavy work in Adobe programs, which were used all summer long during the internship. I also took Management Information Systems, which uses Excel. Because of those classes I took beforehand, I feel I went into this internship well prepared.

How does the outcome of the internship impact your future plans?

The things I learned and the experiences I had during this internship helped me grow out of my comfort zone and become more confident in my field.

What Westminster activities are you involved in?

I am on the women’s soccer team, Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, Lambda Pi Eta National Communications Honors Society and SPARK Club.

What do you plan of doing after graduation in the spring?

My post-grad plans are to pursue a job in the marketing field, specifically in Boston!
