Office of Diversity and Inclusion announces Black History Month activities

Westminster College’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) has announced its schedule of events in observance of Black History Month.

Innocent Until Proven Guilty, an interactive program about systemic racism in the criminal justice system, will be on display at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, in the Berlin Lounge of the campus’ McKelvey Campus Center. Special guests include the Hon. Carla J. Baldwin, presiding judge of the Youngstown Municipal Court, and Lori Shells and Ebenezer Appiagyei, both assistant prosecuting attorneys for the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office.

Members of the campus and surrounding communities are invited to participate in Black Out Day by wearing all black or social justice attire on Saturday, Feb. 12. Those participating are encouraged to post their photos to social media and tag the ODI at @westminsterodi_

The National Pan-Hellenic Council will share information about historically African American fraternities and sororities to members of the campus community from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, in the Berlin Lounge of the campus’ McKelvey Campus Center.

The Fourth Annual Ebony Ball, sponsored by the Black Student Union, will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, in the Witherspoon Rooms of the campus’ McKelvey Campus Center. Reservations are required.

The ODI will hold a weekly trivia contest on its Instagram page throughout the month of February. Follow the ODI at @westminsterodi_ to compete.
