Music Library Aide

Music Library Aides provide directional, technical, and reference/referral assistance to all patrons by using digital/card catalogues and audio equipment. In addition, their work with other office resources and tools assists the librarian in maintaining efficient operation of the Music Library. Responsibilities include a wide array of organizational and service-oriented tasks, which range in required knowledge and skill from general routines (i.e. circulation duties, reference assistance, patron surveillance, operation of audio equipment, shelving, filing, typing, and answering the phone,) to those requiring more specialized training (i.e. cataloguing assistance, data compilation and entry, inventory processing, materials assessment, reserve materials maintenance.)
Qualified applicants are current Westminster students (must be work-study eligible) who are service-oriented, accurate, conscientious about detail, and self-directed. Music Library Aides must demonstrate a friendly, helpful manner and be efficient individuals who take direction well, yet can also be authoritative. This job also requires promptness.

Employment availability of candidate preferably is not limited by frequent participation in athletic activities or musical rehearsals since the Music Library requires staffing up to fourteen hours per day throughout the week (Mon. – Fri., 8:30 A.M. – 10:00 P.M.) as well as on weekends (Sun., 1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. & 7:00 P.M. – 10:00 P.M.) --- After proper training, this job can become highly specialized. Advanced organizational routines require critical reasoning and assessment abilities as well as efficient typing, artistic, and/or computer skills. --- Shelving/inventory activities may necessitate bending, stretching, and moderate physical strength to lift and shift materials. --- Music Library Aides also must prove to be dependable as evening and weekend shifts hold them responsible for the security of valuable equipment and materials.
