About Me

I graduated from Brown University with a MA and PhD in French Studies.  I am thankful that my academic interests allowed me to study abroad in France both as an undergraduate and a graduate student, and I encourage students of all majors to consider that exciting possibility while they are in college.  I taught at Ohio State and Virginia Tech for many years before arriving at Westminster College in 1995.  Since I also studied Spanish and teach some at Westminster, my title here is Associate Professor of French and Spanish.

I enjoy teaching all areas of French language, literature, and culture.  My special interests include French and Francophone narrative writing of the nineteenth, twentieth, and twentieth-first centuries, especially the works of Louis-Ferdinand Céline and Nobel Prize laureate Patrick Modiano.

Other ways I support the Modern Languages program at Westminster include advising the French Honorary Society and organizing a French film festival.
