About Me

I am an Assistant Professor of Secondary Education/Literacy Expert in Education and the Secondary Education Program Coordinator. Formerly, I was a high school English teacher, English Department Chair, and Technology Coach for over 10 years. I earned my Ph.D. in Education from Robert Morris University in 2013, my Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard University in 2020, and my Google Educator Trainer Certificate in 2018.

I am passionate about secondary education methods. In 2021, I published a best-selling book, Keeping the Wonder: An Educator’s Guide to Magical, Engaging, and Joyful Learning. The high praise of this book was in part thanks to the vast community of educators I have built from my professional research endeavors. In 2017, I started a professional website at www.jennacopper.com with the goal to help current and future secondary educators teach critical competencies. My website and related social media have grown to an audience of over 50,000 educators. Through these global connections, I co-created a non-profit education workshop, Keeping the Wonder Workshop, to promote creative and innovative secondary education instruction. Teachers from all over the United States have attended our “pop-up” professional development workshops.

Starting with my dissertation study in 2013, I have researched literary theory and multiple perspectives learning applications in secondary education with the goal to expand critical multicultural education. This research passion has led me to publish research related to global learning and cross-cultural communication. In addition, I have explored ways in which information and communication technology can encourage students to gain diverse perspectives and build empathy.

You can find out more about my research and teaching by following me on Instagram and TikTok at @drjennacopper, and of course, stop by the Education Department to say hello!
