NEH Summer Scholars are expected to be fully engaged in the seminar for the full duration of the Seminar. Summer scholars receive a stipend of $2,700 to assist with the costs of transportation to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., housing, food, and supplies. Two checks will be disbursed during the first and third weeks of the Seminar. NEH stipends are taxable.
In order to create a vital, collaborative community of scholars at Vassar during the duration of the three-week seminar, Vassar will offer summer scholars affordable accommodations in The Terrace Apartments on campus. The cost is $50 per day. The Terrace Apartments feature four private bedrooms and a shared full kitchen and bath. Scholars can bring their own bed linens and towels or rent them from Vassar. Linens are $25 per bundle. The apartments have laundry facilities and internet access but not air conditioning. Scholars who would like to rent an air conditioning unit for their room can make a special request but may need to be housed in an alternate residence on campus. Vassar will also provide on-campus parking stickers and access to the on-campus fitness center free of charge. Summer Scholars who do not plan to stay on campus can make alternate arrangements on their own.
Light snacks and coffee will be provided during sessions.
