Westminster celebrates diversity month

NEW WILMINGTON, PA –  November marks Diversity Month at Westminster College, and organizations on campus are working together to help the student body celebrate the differences that bring everyone together.

Westminster’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Black Student Union (BSU), ALLIES, the Disability Awareness Club (DAC) and the Student Government Association (SGA) are each sponsoring different events throughout the month. All events will be hosted on the Westminster campus.

Mark Weir, Pittsburgh-based motivation speaker and diversity and inclusion consultant, will present “How to Create an Inclusive Campus Community” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Berlin Lounge of McKelvey Campus Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Students can team up with friends for the Diversity Dodgeball Tournament at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the Old 77 gymnasium.

Safe Zone Training will be led by Ted Hoover at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the Witherspoon Maple Room located within the College’s McKelvey Campus Center. The training will teach students, faculty and administration how to support people in the GLBTQ+ community.

An interactive Tunnel of Oppression tour will give participants the opportunity to touch, hear and see the realities of oppression at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in Patterson Hall.

A Craft and Sip Titan Night will then be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in Berlin Lounge, which will feature canvas painting, GLBTQ+-themed adult coloring book pages, friendship bracelet-making and rainbow mocktails.

Diversity Monthat Westminster will round out with R.E.A.L. (Relevant-Engaging-Authentic-Learning) Conversations at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, in Berlin Lounge. The event will feature administrators and students who will share their perspectives about identity politics in today’s society.
