Westminster political science professor presents at subjectivity conference

NEW WILMINGTON, PA – Dr. James C. Rhoads, Westminster College professor of political science, recently presented at the 35th annual meeting of the International Society for the Scientific Study of Subjectivity (ISSSS) held Oct. 10-13 in Charlotte, N.C.

Rhoads, who currently serves as ISSSS president, presented “All the President’s Men: 45 Years After Watergate” and “Donald Trump as President: A Mid-Term Assessment of the Subjective Understandings of the U.S. Chief Executive.”

Rhoads co-authored the latter presentation with Dr. Dan B. Thomas, Wartburg College professor emeritus; Dr. Bruce McKeown of Camano Island, Wash.; and Dr. Larry Baas, senior research professor at Valparaiso University.

In addition, Rhoads and Dr. Sue Ramlo of the University of Akron co-presented the Introduction to Q Methodology workshop to a number of doctoral students.

The meeting attracted scholars from around the globe. Delegates from North America, Europe, South America, Africa, the Middle East, the Far East, Australia and Oceania offered presentations.

Rhoads joined the Westminster faculty in 1992. He earned his undergraduate degree, master’s degree, and Ph.D. from Kent State University. His term as ISSSS president expires in 2020.

The 2019 ISSSS conference will be held in Italy next September. ISSSS is dedicated to advancing the ideas of Dr. William Stephenson, inventor of Q methodology, a research method used in psychology and in social sciences to study people’s subjectivity or viewpoint.
