Summer Environmental Program to Offer Early College Credit

Westminster College is partnering with Jennings Environmental Education Center and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy on a summer camp for high school students. The summer program, EYE Con: Experiencing Your Environment through CONservation, targets students entering 9th through 12th grades and focuses on hands-on science that has real-world implications for conservation.

The theme for EYE Con this year theme is “Conservation in a Changing Climate,” and participating students will have the opportunity to work directly with environmental professionals to develop a research question, carry out field and lab work, and ultimately make recommendations for the protection and management of natural resources based on their investigations.

EYE Con is being held at Jennings Environmental Education Center June 18-21, 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. daily. The camp application fee is $100. For more information and to apply, please see: https://eyeconcamp.wordpress.com/

Students participating in EYE Con will have the opportunity to earn college credit through Westminster’s Early College program. A separate registration process and fee is required, and completion of a few additional assignments will be necessary to earn college credit. Westminster College faculty members Dr. Patrick Krantz and Dr. Helen Boylan will be assisting with the EYE Con experience and overseeing the college coursework associated with the Early College program. All EYE Con students will experience a half-day as a college student during the camp, with a trip to Westminster College to perform laboratory testing of field samples and to do library research related to their research investigation.
