Junior mathematics/secondary education majors Jacob Stoyer, Gabriel Roman, and Sumer Kassim attended the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Annual Meeting in Washington, DC on April 25-28. The students attended the conference alongside assistant professor of education Dr. Sararose Lynch and associate professor of mathematics Dr. David Offner.

NCTM is the premier national organization for mathematics teachers. Thousands of mathematics educators gathered in Washington DC to network and discuss the latest trends in mathematics education.

"The students were exposed to a wide range of information about the profession, and met teachers and other educators who will be their future colleagues," added Offner. "They also attended a session specially designed for people entering the profession and met with pre service teachers from other schools throughout the country."

The students had opportunities to attend sessions on teaching particular topics in algebra, geometry, precalculus and calculus, and using technology and manipulatives in the classroom. Other sessions focused on new national initiatives for mathematics education. Also, Dr. Lynch presented her experiences doing professional development for teachers in a talk entitled "University-School PD Partnership: Conceptually Based Basic Skills Acquisition for All."
