Westminster College Inquiry Classes Partner with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank

Westminster College students in Dr. Sherri Pataki’s Inquiry classes partnered with the Apple Castle in New Wilmington and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to pick produce for distribution to families in the Pittsburgh area.

The project was part of the food bank’s gleaning program that involves community farmers donating produce that volunteers harvest and load for delivery to the food bank. The students helped pick 1,725 pounds of corn and 2,520 pounds of squash and pumpkins.

The Apple Castle, which has been producing quality fruits and vegetables for over 150 years, is owned and operated by Westminster alumni Lyle ’74 and Sandy ’75 Johnston.

Inquiry (Introduction to a Liberal Arts Education) introduces students to the philosophy and practice of a liberal arts education by investigating classic and emerging questions that arise from current social and intellectual concerns.
