Dr. James Rhoads, Westminster College professor of political science, organized and hosted the 32nd annual conference of the International Society for the Scientific Study of Subjectivity held Sept. 7-10 in New Orleans.

The conference brought together Q methodologists from around the world and from several disciplines to share their research. Q methodology is a conceptual framework and set of procedures used to scientifically study the subjective. Presentations were made by academics from Australia and New Zealand, Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

In addition to his other duties, Rhoads co-presented the “Introduction to Q” workshop, for doctoral students using Q in their research and dissertations, with Dr. Susan Ramlo (University of Akron). He co-authored two conference presentations: “Trump 2016: Popular Narratives of an Insurgent Presidential Candidate” with Dr. Larry Baas (Valparaiso University), Dr. Dan Thomas (Wartburg College) and Dr. Shannon Smithey, Westminster associate professor of political science; and “Academic Perspectives of the Obama Legacy” with Baas and Thomas.

Rhoads was re-elected vice president of the society. The next annual meeting will be held September 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.
