Dr. Bryan Rennie, Westminster College professor of religion and philosophy and Vira I. Heinz Chair in religion, will deliver a series of invited guest lectures during a research trip to Italy in October.

Rennie, a globally recognized scholar on the life and works of Mircea Eliade and the relationship of religion and art, will present “Eliade’s Concept of the Sacred” and “Skill and the Sacred” at the University of Salerno.

The following week he will deliver “The Ethology of Art and Religion” at La Sapienza University of Rome. He has been asked by the editor-in-chief of SMSR, the flagship journal for the history of religions in Italy, to submit the text of this talk for publication.

Rennie, who has been with Westminster since 1992, earned an undergraduate degree, master’s degree, and Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.  His research interests focus on the works of Mircea Eliade, about whom he has authored four books and numerous articles; the relationship of religion and the creative arts; and the ethology (the study of behavior as an evolved trait) of art and religion.
