Community service shines at Westminster as a key element of service learning in action - on and off campus. That action has received recognition from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).

For the 9th year in a row, Westminster College has been named on the CNCS President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor roll for its support of volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

Westminster has landed on the Honor Roll every year since the program was launched in 2006. Every year, Westminster students volunteer nearly 25,000 hours during the academic year through academic service-learning or other community service.

"Westminster has a long history of service-learning and believes strongly in preparing our graduates to be active leaders and participants in an ever-changing world," said Dr. Patrick Krantz, director of Westminster's Drinko Center for Experiential Learning, where the hours and projects are tracked. "We're honored to receive this prestigious award and owe much of it to the students themselves. They're the energy driving our commitment and they're the ones who make it all happen."

The Westminster College Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is a wonderful example of the type of community service that contributes to Westminster’s annual recognition as a national leader in community service.  Each year, a group of students join this chapter and agree to become integral members of this community by attending regular meetings, participating in scheduled work days. These students may also have the opportunity to attend a Spring Break trip.

Here’s a video featuring the project and our students in action:
