Westminster College's Environmental Programs will host the Great Backyard Bird Count Feb. 16 at the Nature Center at 937 Fayette-New Wilmington Road, New Wilmington.

A bird walk for beginners is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. for children and parents who want to learn tips for bird watching and explore birds along with other fun activities.

A bird walk for adults is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Join novice and expert bird watchers on a guided walk, learn bird ID skills, and report species counts for international research. A limited number of binoculars will be available for participants, but patrons are encouraged to bring their own.

The bird walks are part of the 16th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), sponsored by Audubon, and takes place Feb. 15-18.

According to Audubon, "The GBBC is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages to create a real-time snapshot of winter bird populations. Participants are asked to count birds for as little as 15 minutes (or as long as they wish) on one or more days of the event and report their sightings online."

Sightings can be recorded here.
