Music Professor Invited as Guest Conductor for Concert Band Festival

Posted on Tuesday, December 20, 2011

Dr. R. Tad Greig, Westminster College associate professor of music and director of bands, will be a guest conductor for the Trinity High School Concert Band Festival Jan. 6-7 in Washington.

Participating high school band directors will take their entire bands, rather than a few selected individual musicians, to work on music with the guest conductor.

"This concept speaks to me so well as an educator," Greig said.  "Rather than an honors experience for a few musicians from multiple schools, I get to work with an intact ensemble on music they will perform back at their own school - a musical development experience for everyone."

Greig has been a guest conductor and clinician throughout the eastern United States for 16 years.

"As a conductor, educator, and arts advocate, I treasure every opportunity to make sure that music and the arts remain as they should be: an essential part of every young person's life," Greig said.

Greig, who serves as chair of Westminster's Department of Music, joined the faculty in 1995.  He earned an undergraduate degree from Grove City College, master's degree from Youngstown State University, and Ph.D. from Kent State University.
