Business Majors Place in International Competition

Posted on Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Bethany Marchetti, Westminster College senior business administration major, and Matthew Saines, senior business administration and accounting major, tied for 55th place in the Best Overall Score in The Business Strategy Game for the week ending Sept. 28.

Working together as "Team EequalsMCsquared," Marchetti and Saines are students in a class taught by Dr. Jacque King, Westminster assistant professor of business. Their team is one of 1,970 teams from 133 colleges and universities throughout the world participating this semester.

Marchetti is a daughter of Bruce and Lauren Marchetti of South Park and a graduate of South Park High School.

Saines is a son of George and MaryAnn Saines of New Castle and a graduate of Neshannock High School.

The Business Strategy Game is an online exercise where class members are divided into teams and assigned the task of running an athletic footwear company in competition against companies managed by other class members. Company operations parallel those of actual athletic footwear companies who compete in a global market, selling athletic footwear in four geographic regions-Europe-Africa, North America, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.

All aspects of The Business Strategy Game parallel the functioning of the real-world athletic footwear market, allowing students to think rationally and logically in making decisions and receive valuable practice in making a variety of business decisions under circumstances that mirror real-world competitive conditions.
