Tamara Scherer, a Westminster College junior sociology major, received a $6,000 scholarship, payable over four years, from the Eugene and Nell Petrucci Fund No. 2 of The Pittsburgh Foundation.

The award will be applied to Scherer's tuition for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Scherer is a daughter of Lisa Koller of Washington and a graduate of Washington High School.

"We are grateful to The Pittsburgh Foundation and their scholarship funds for their support of bright, motivated students like Tamara, who represent the future of our region," said Gloria Cagigas, vice president for institutional advancement at Westminster.

The Pittsburgh Foundation is one of the oldest community foundations in the U.S., awarding more than $36.8 million in grants to a vast array of nonprofit organizations, students through scholarships, and medical researchers in 2006. Since 1945, The Pittsburgh Foundation has been connecting its generous donors with the critical needs of the community. Donors who have established funds through the Foundation can support virtually any area of charitable interest.
