Dr. Joseph M. Balczon, assistant professor of biology at Westminster College, recently had his research published in two worldwide electronic publications.

ECOLOG-L, which is the daily mailing list of the Ecological Society of America, and SciCentral.com, a web site that spotlights important new research, both featured articles based on the research of Balczon, and Robert Heath of Kent State University.

The research focuses on the zebra mussel's impact on microbenthic organism in Lake Erie. Balczon and Heath concluded that unlike other aquatic nuisance species, zebra mussels may have little effect in this area.

Balczon, who has been with Westminster since 1997, earned his undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University-Behrend College, and his master's and Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University.
