Campus to celebrate student research and artistic achievements at URAC on April 19

Westminster College will showcase student research presentations and performances at its annual Undergraduate Research and Arts Celebration (URAC) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in locations across the College’s campus. 

More than 300 students, ranging from first-years to seniors from nearly every academic discipline, will participate in the day-long event. Classes are suspended for the day for the College to showcase the collaborative work between Westminster faculty and students in the form of poster presentations, oral presentations, video screenings, poetry readings, research roundtables, art displays, live musical performances, public speeches and debates and podium presentations. 

Posters will be on display in the Witherspoon Room of the McKelvey Campus Center in four sessions: 9 to 10 a.m., 11 a.m. to noon, 1 to 2 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m.

Oral presentations will be held in Patterson Hall in two sessions: 10 to 11:20 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:50 p.m. Research roundtables will also be held in Patterson Hall in two sessions: 10 to 10:45 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.

Four select podium presentations, to be held in Mueller Theater in McKelvey Campus Center and on Facebook Live, will be held from noon to 12:30 p.m., 12:30 to 1 p.m., 3 to 3:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 4 p.m.

Live musical performances will take place throughout campus during the day. The Westminster College Barbershop Club will perform from 9 to 9:15 a.m. on the first floor of McKelvey Campus Center; the Westminster College Percussion Ensemble will take to the Orr Auditorium stage from 11 to 11:15 a.m.; a one-man band featuring student Michael Everhart will perform from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. in Patterson Hall; and the Market Street Brass Quintet will play from 3 to 3:15 p.m. on the first floor of McKelvey Campus Center.

Student artwork will also be displayed throughout the day. A poetry collection by the class of 2026 will be on display on the main quad from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. An art gallery talk will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m., while other works will be on display in the McKelvey Campus Center atrium located on the third floor.

The annual poetry slam—sponsored by the English honorary society Sigma Tau Delta and the campus literary magazine SCRAWL—will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the Cultural Center in McKelvey Campus Center. 

Four video screenings will be held in Mueller Theater in McKelvey Campus Center from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by BirdTok videos from 11 a.m. to noon. Student documentaries will be previewed to focus groups in four sessions: from 9 to 10 a.m., 11 a.m. to noon, 1 to 2 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. All will take place in McKelvey Room 275.

Public speeches will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Berlin Lounge in McKelvey Campus Center. A readers theater event will also be held in Berlin Lounge from 1:30 to 2 p.m. A parliamentary debate will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. in Berlin.
