Westminster Titan Traverse Director to Spend 48 Hours in a Canoe

Posted on Thursday, November 8, 2001

Steve Montgomery, director of the Titan Traverse Program at Westminster College, will spend from noon Thursday until noon Saturday in a canoe on Brittain Lake to raise awareness of the opportunity for Westminster students to participate in a spring break trip to Cumberland Island, Georgia.

The facilitators of Titan Traverse have invited Westminster students to join them Thursday and Friday evenings from 4-6 p.m. to sample "wilderness cooking" and spend time around the campfire to talk about the warm weather, alligators, wild horses and deserted white sand beaches of this barrier island off the coast of Georgia.

"The beaches are unbelievable," said Montgomery. "The island has the feel of an old southern plantation with the Spanish moss hanging from the huge trees, small palm trees, armadillos and wild horses running through the camp. The setting allows for relaxed conversation."

It is through this relaxed conversation combined with fun and play, that Titan Traverse participants are encouraged to learn about themselves and others in the group.

For more information on Titan Traverse, contact Montgomery at the lake or after noon Saturday at (724) 946-7214 or e-mail montgosr@westminster.edu.
