Quiet Phase

In the past few weeks, the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 around the country, including western Pennsylvania, has surged. We have also seen an increase in positive cases on our campus, though our positivity rate remains relatively low.  It is our goal to finish the semester strong, to slow the spread of the virus on our campus, and to help protect the family members, friends and loved ones you will soon be traveling to see. To that end, we are implementing a Quiet Phase, effective Wednesday, November 11 at 8 a.m.  The following strategies are designed to limit your close contacts for the next two weeks. For the remainder of the semester, students should only leave their rooms or apartments for the following:

  • Attending classes, labs and/or clinicals in-person;
  • Picking up food (seating will not be available in the TUB or Galbreath Dining), although full menu options will be available;
  • Studying in the library (please check library hours);
  • Exercising alone outdoors (facilities in the Field House and Old 77 are closed);
  • Working, including practicum experiences, internships and student teaching (if in-person is required); and
  • Shopping for essentials and medical needs

Additionally, all student life activities have been moved online or postponed, including all meetings, events, and athletic practices.  The fire pit and study room reservation system has been discontinued.  And, as always, if you are outside your residence pod or apartment, maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from others and wear a face covering—this is true everywhere on campus, both inside and outside.
