Students In Free Enterprise
is a partnership between higher education and business. SIFE
student teams help teach others an understanding of how market economies
and businesses operate, and help them to use this knowledge to better themselves
and their community. Through the overall and special competitions SIFE
offers a forum for student teams to present their
outreach projects to panels of top level
business executives and entrepreneurs. There are over 500 colleges
that currently have SIFE programs.
Visit SIFE's main site at http://www.sife.org.
SIFE business supporters (individuals, corporations, and foundations) provide financial support for the competitions, serve as judges and competition coordinators, and provide funds for prize money and trophies awarded to winning teams. Some of the top sponsors of SIFE are Wal Mart, Radio Shack, Hallmark, General Mills, and AT&T, to name a few.
SIFE's philosophy is, "tell me and I will forget, show me and I might remember, involve me and I will understand" By putting students in the role of teaching others, they get a first-hand understanding of economics, management, marketing and education. If students put in over 50 hours of SIFE experience in their college program in a year, then they become eligible to submit their resumes to the sponsorship companies and attain possible positions within the company.
