H1N1 Update

To the Campus Community:

This week at the Health Center we have had only one student who tested positive for influenza. That student was isolated here on campus for several days and is now well and back in class.

Thus far all of the students who have come to the Health Center for care and have tested positive for influenza have also tested positive for the H1N1 virus. That total is now at 22.

We have sent no students home this week with influenza-like illness. We do, however, continue to see many students with sinus infections and colds. These illnesses are very typical for this time of year.

News on the H1N1 Vaccine: This week I received a letter from the Physician General of the Pennsylvania Department of Health concerning the distribution of the vaccine. The state has placed their first order for the vaccine. The initial supplies of the vaccine will be limited in number, but will increase throughout October and November. I have placed an order for our students and first responders (Public Safety Officers) and have been told that we may learn next week when we can expect to receive the vaccine. I will keep you informed as I learn more.
