Participation Opportunities
Campaign
Managers (4)
Each
of the four campaign managers will represent one of the four contenders
for the republican nomination (Gary Bauer, George W. Bush, Steve Forbes
and John McCain). This is one of the most important, influential
and active positions at the convention. The responsibilities of the
campaign managers are: to persuade the convention that your candidate
is best suited to represent the republican party in the general election
of the United States. In doing this you will be required to attend
a debate before the convention, give a speech before the convention defending
your candidate and persuade the states to vote for your candidate at the
convention. You will also receive a budget of $500 for parties and
activities to promote your candidate to the campus community. Even
if your insight is minimal, this position will give you a new insight into
the electoral process and this is a great opportunity to get involved.
If you are interested in this opportunity and would like an application,
or if you would like more information, contact John Hauser at hauserjm@westminster.edu.
State
Chairs (55)
State
chairs coordinate all state activities. Responsibilities include recruiting
at least 25 percent of the delegation for your state; holding caucuses
at least twice to coordinate platform proposal, a state theme, representation
in the parade and discuss the candidate's and issues with your state delegates.
Being a state chairperson is a great way to bring all your friends together
by recruiting them as your delegates. If you are chosen as a state
chair, you must attend a few mandatory orientation meetings before you
begin your duties. If you are interested in an application or would
like more information, contact Inga Laurent at laurenin@westminster.edu
State
Delegates
State
delegates have responsibilities mainly at the convention. They are
responsible for voting on all matters that come before the convention and
participating in the parade and other promotional events. If you
are interested in participating as a delegate or would like more information,
please contact Inga Laurent at laurenin@westminster.edu.
