Keynote Speaker

Robert D. Novak

Novak began his career as a reporter while still attending the University of Illinois.  After graduating in 1952 with a B.A. degree, Novak served in the United States Army as a Lieutenant during the Korean War.

Following his service to his country, Novak joined the staff of the Associated Press in Omaha, Nebraska.  He was then transferred to the staff in Lincoln, Nebraska and from there to Indianapolis, Indiana, all the while covering politics and the state legislature.  Then in 1957, Novak moved to Washington D.C. and began to cover the United States Congress.

On May 15, 1963, Novak teamed up with Rowland Evans, Jr., then congressional correspondent for the New York Herald Tribune, to write Inside Report, a nationally syndicated political column.  Since Evans’ retirement in 1993, Novak continues to write the column, which appears in over 150 newspapers.

With a basis in hard reporting, Novak has criss-crossed the nation regularly covering the political scene as well as traveled abroad to report wars, revolutions, and international conferences.  Novak’s experience in the political world allows him to present the American public with an up-front view of national and international political happenings.

Novak has authored four books, Agony of the GOP: 1964, Lyndon B. Johnson: The Exercise of Power, Nixon in the White House, and The Reagan Revolution.

Currently, Novak serves as a commentator of Cable News Network (CNN), where he co-hosts the Evans and Novak interview program.  He also appears on and serves as co-executive producer of CNN’s political roundtable Capital Gang and regularly co-hosts Crossfire.
