Letters of Recommendation

While I would like to write a letter of recommendation for every student who asks, I can only write a letter which benefits both the student and the institution or program making the request if I know the student well.   If you would like me to write a letter of recommendation or serve as a reference please review the following personal requests and stipulations.

My personal requests

I would like to be given at least two weeks notice for each request;

I would like the exact name of the institution and program or company, along with a mailing address (even if the letter is to be submitted electroncially);

I need to know the exact due date for each request (due dates for recommendation letters are not always the same as for the application; I would like the due date for the letter).

I would like to know why you are applying to this program and how you think it will benefit your development and career goals, especially for external letters of recommendation (a paragraph for each request).
