Education Outreach

The programs are sponsored by the Chapel and Church Relations Office and made possible through a grant from Pitcairn-Crabbe Foundation of Pittsburgh. A registration fee (listed with each event) will cover the cost of lunch.

The seminars will be held on the campus of Westminster College in the Witherspoon Rooms in the McKelvey Campus Center, unless otherwise stated. Each day begins with light refreshments and fellowship. Last year (2006-2007) our guests were: Dr. Ron E. Tappy, G. Albert Shoemaker Professor of Bible and Archaeology at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary with the seminar entitled "The Origins of Our Alphabet:  New Evidence for the History of Writing in the Time of King Solomon".  "The New Day in Presbyterian Mission and What It Means for Your Congregation" was presented by Rev. Donald Dawson, Director World Mission Initiative and New Wilmington Mission Conference and Rev. David Dawson, Executive Presbyter of Shenanog Presbytery.  Our third seminar entitled "Leading Through Change and Transition" and "How to Move a Church from Maintenance to Mission" was presented by Dr. Dale E Galloway, Dean, Beeson International Center in Wilmore, Kentucky.

"TECHNOLOGY AND THE PRACTICES OF MINISTRY"
Can we do pastoral care by e-mail?  Should we? Is an online community really a community?

Seminar will offer an overview of recent technological changes and identify key issues for the church to consider as we seek to minister faithfully in the midst of those changes.  Discussion on the impact of technology on work and family, on public and religious participation, as well as the various approaches churches have taken to using technological resources in ministry and worship.

"Introduction to Christianity in Egypt" - January 6-26, 2008
See and experience the Middle East outside of a tour bus.  Experience living and learning among the Arabic-speaking people and their churches.  On this study tour you will be living with, talking with, visiting with and learning from the living Semitic inheritors of the church of the Apostles. You will be directed by staff from our own Egyptian Presbyterian Evangelical Seminary in Cairo.
