Duties:
The Network Operations Student Employee will work closely with the Infrastructure Services Network Operations Team with daily tasks pertaining to running the college’s network, such as wired and wireless networks on campus, the telephone system and other technologies used at Westminster. • Help end users with their problem tickets under supervision and guidance (network printing, network access issues, wired and wireless LAN/internet connectivity, telephones, and other technologies used at WC) • Assist with physical hardware installation, racking, and maintenance. • Assist with data entry and data analysis. • Assist with data backups and data recovery. • Responsible for Inventory Control (installed technologies and spare parts). • Documenting current technology implementation and creating technical diagrams • Labeling and tracing network, telephone and power cabling. • Assist with the alerting and monitoring software. • Assist with preparation for periodic server maintenance. • Assist with research and implementation of new technologies and software solutions. • Assist with special projects (such as physical moves, new equipment unboxing and installation, new software implementation) as needed. • Light cleaning of work area and data center. • Any other tasks as directed by the Network Engineer.

Qualifications/Skills:
Those interested in this position must be ethical, detail-oriented and organized. They should be willing to learn and willing to develop a knowledge of the tasks involved with maintaining the College’s network resources.

Special Requirements:
Preference will be given to students with previous computer, networking and troubleshooting skills but we are willing to train anyone with a willingness to learn. This position can work over school breaks and during the summer, but it is not required.
