Duties:
Working on the Trail; helping with the established community garden in the Rankin Garden/Nursery; running machinery (lawn mowers, weed trimmers, roto-tiller, chipper/shredder, lawn and farm tractors); hoeing, weeding working in the Nursery, Microforest, Arboretum, Gese Garden Spot and Travis Bee/Butterfly Garden; recording weekly weather data; composting (limited, since the College at this time is not seriously composting); painting inside and out; maintaining the Frey Trail and boardwalk; manicuring the Edmiston Labyrinth; working in the College Woods (removing nuisance species, maintaining trails). Some of this is “routine maintenance” work and some is “research.”

Qualifications/Skills:
Motivation and physical stamina to work outdoors, ability to lift up to 30 lbs and run machinery (including farm-type tractors); if first time in this type of job, recommendation of a previous employer; valid driver’s license (and ability/willingness to drive the truck). Preference for employment will be given in this order: experienced workers at the Outdoor Laboratory, students who currently major in biology or environmental science at Westminster and plan to attend Westminster in Fall, 2016 and upperclass students. Others will also be considered but at a lower priority.
