Frequently Asked Questions

Can I cash a check at the Business Office?

The Business Office does not cash checks. However, there are branches of Huntington Bank and First National Bank of Pennsylvania located two blocks from the College that will cash personal checks up to $25 on out-of-town banks with the presentation of a student ID card. Also, there is an ATM in the TUB in McKelvey Campus Center and both banks in town, and the bookstore will let you write a check for up to $10 beyond the value of items purchased.

Why is there a reservation deposit on my student billing statement? Can't that be applied to my bill?

Upon acceptance at Westminster you are required to pay a reservation deposit. If you attend Westminster and later graduate or withdraw and have no outstanding charges, such as unpaid parking tickets, unpaid library fines, outstanding residence hall damage or other unpaid charges, the deposit will be refunded to you approximately 60 days after withdrawal or graduation. Until that time the deposit remains on every monthly statement.

Am I eligible for the Hope Tuition Credit, Life-Time Learning Credit, or American Opportunity Credit?

The College cannot provide tax advice, but does provide detailed information about the credit to help you determine if you are eligible. IRS form 1098-T Tuition Statements are mailed to the student’s billing address at the end of January. Additionally, you should retain your monthly statements to help determine the amount of the credit, if you determine you are eligible. It is up to you or your tax advisor to make this determination. Can I withdraw cash from my Titan Card Account?

The Titan Card can be used to purchase items at the Bookstore, Titan Gift Shop, the TUB, Duff Student Restaurant, Titan Club (Wow) and campus beverage and snack vending machines, and to pay fines or fees, but it is not a bank account from which money can be withdrawn. Funds unspent at the end of an academic year automatically carry forward to the next year. Funds on account when the student graduates or withdraws from the College will be returned to the student within 60 days of their withdrawal/graduation (provided they have no financial obligations due to the College). For more information on the Titan Card.

May I pay on my student account at the cashier's window with a credit card or a Titan Card?

The answer is no at this time. However, you can pay your account with a credit card or electronic check via CASHNet.  CASHNet charges a convenience fee to pay by credit card, but payments by electronic check are free.
