House Bill (HB) 708, the "Covered Device Recycling Act," creates a statewide program to recover and recycle electronic waste, specifically computer equipment and televisions. Manufacturers of computer devices and televisions must establish a program to collect, transport and recycle a certain quantity of this equipment and register/submit a plan with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Manufacturers must also share information with consumers about where and how to recycle these products. Lastly, there will also be a ban on the disposal of computer parts and televisions in Pennsylvania landfills two years after the effective date of January 1, 2012.
Can't make it to our collection? Don't let it be a reason to irresponsibly dispose of your old tech. Follow this link to coordinate collection with a legitimate recycler in your area.
