First year students gathered in Westminster College's McGill Library for the second annual Library FYO (First Years Only) for a late night introduction to library resources and services on August 29. The event included a chance to play mini-golf as well as listen to a live DJ, eat food, and win prizes.
Audio Visual Services, McGill Library staff, and Inquiry professors collaborated to create a mini-golf course throughout McGill that taught new students about various library collections, tools, resources, and associated services. Approximately 120 First Year students attended the event.
"FYO is the First-Year student's chance to figure out the lay of the land in the library, while relaxing and having fun," said Kate Altman, Technical Service Specialist at McGill Library,. "Plus, who doesn't love a round of mini-golf?"
Volunteers planned several activities for First-Years to enjoy. Andy Borts, Instructional Media Technician of AV Services, had the students dancing all night as DJ. First Year students also got to decorate stress balls that they could take home. They snacked on animal crackers, cheese balls, and lemonade as they learned about the various levels of the library.
