Kevin McCarty, Media Library Manager at Audio Visual Services, has accepted a position at local accounting firm Carbis Walker as an Associate in Tax Services.
Kevin discovered Carbis Walker during the fall of his junior year. He had worked hard and earned solid grades in previous accounting classes and was offered a spot in an accelerated Intermediate Accounting course with the Lifelong Learning Program, which was taught by Chief Operating Officer of Carbis Walker, Annette Kosmowski. Ms. Kosmowski noticed Kevin's talent and passion for accounting, and encouraged him to apply for the prestigious internship program.
Kevin showed talent during his time as an intern at Carbis Walker and was offered a full-time position in January 2013. He will be working in the firm's Auto Dealership Services team with car dealerships in the Western PA and Eastern OH region. During the tax off-season, he will also be a member of the firm's Employee Benefit audit team, which will help him to meet the audit hour requirement needed for the CPA exam. During the summer, he will be traveling around the area to hospitals, nursing homes, and extended care facilities, assisting in audits of pensions and 401(k)s.
Kevin said that his time here at Westminster has greatly prepared him for his position. "Westminster prepared me for this job by teaching me to think outside the box, be myself, and treat people with respect and encouragement," said Kevin. "Being a Westminster student has taught me the value of appreciating friendships and relationships, and using those to build my own character."
Kevin also reported that his time at Audio Visual Services helped to prepare him for the workforce. "AV has specifically prepared for my upcoming job at Carbis Walker by teaching me how to be a responsible, caring, and loyal person, employee, and manager. I've always said that AV has taught me the "little things" that people often don't get the opportunity to learn, like answering the phone and writing professional emails," said Kevin. "The Directors and Operations staff have worked diligently to make sure that I have the best preparation for life after graduation that they can give, and they've done a fantastic job."
"We have tremendous respect for all that Kevin has accomplished in his time with our department," shared Westminster AV Director Gary Swanson. "I'm sure Carbis Walker identified his cheerful disposition, intricate attention to detail, and focus while motivating those around him. Those are only some of the reasons we will miss him here, and we are anxious to follow his many successes as he departs from Westminster."
