Searching hints
You can use any or all of the fields during your search. The more fields you fill in the more you narrow your search. You will notice at the bottom of the page, you can also search for recent additions to our holdings by selecting last month, two months, three months, six months, or a year.
When the database searches, it scans according to the text you have entered. A title search for >ethics< will locate all words with that exact string. For example, ETHICS IN AMERICA and SCIENCE AND ETHICS would appear after your search, but ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS IN BROADCASTING would not appear since an “A” appears where your search requested an “S”. To remedy this, use the shortest form of the word (in this case,>ethic<,) to locate all three titles. Because of this search method, understand that a search for >ethic< will not locate similar words or phrases, like "values" or "beliefs".
Using your search results
Your search will either provide you with no matches, or a list of title links. If you end up with no matches, simply try another string of text at the top of the page. From a list of title links, you can click and get further information on a title. Here you will find title, subject (including length), year, format, storage location, and availability. (Note: If you have titles that you frequently use, you may want to print out these pages and keep them in your files.)
****An important note on STORAGE and AVAILABILITY
If a title is not stored in the AV office, we are not responsible for its circulation. For this reason, a title stored in another department may be listed as "available" in the database; however you will not be able to check it out from the A.V. office. You will need to contact the storage department directly to check on the title's availability and make arrangements with that department's chair to use the title. All titles stored in the AV office, however, will have accurate availability listings in the database.
