Marie Libal Smith has been a professional piano accompanist for over 25 years, having wide experience with professionals and students, instrumentalists and vocalists. She has played hundreds of recitals, auditions, and master classes at the Indiana University School of Music for 17 years, playing in the studios of Janos Starker, Josef Gingold, James King, Giorgio Tozzi, Gianna D’Angelo and Vera Scammon. Ms. Libal-Smith has frequently accompanied for Metropolitan Opera Regional and District auditions and recently performed with members of the Pittsburgh Opera Apprentice Program. Ms. Libal-Smith has held positions at DePauw University School of Music and the University of Alabama. Ms. Libal-Smith earned the M.M. in Piano from Indiana University, Bloomington, and completed the doctoral-level Specialist in Music Education Degree. She studied chamber music with Artur Balsam and Luba Dubinsky of the Borodin Trio and studied Lieder with Leonard Hokanson and Gary Arvin.
