Art department events:
  • Student artwork will be on display on the second floor of  the library through Dec. 4. The artwork in from new honors course "Wild Color: Creating Fiber Art with Natural Dyes," taught by Professor Peggy Cox. The work includes weaving, felt making, surface design on silk, and a poster project. The artwork will also be displayed at the Student Symposium on the Environment Dec. 6 from 5-6 p.m. on the second floor of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Community events:
  • New Bedford Presbyterian Church is hosting Breakfast in Bethlehem Dec. 15 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Bring your children to experience a time in Bethlehem, wear shepherd costumes, taste "market food" of the time, make a roll in Mary's kitchen, work in the pottery shop, and view/pet animals in the Nativity scene.   • The "Perspectives on the World Christian Movement" course is coming to the Westminster College campus. It's an opportunity to gain a new view and perspective on what God is doing in the world. The course will be held 1-4 p.m. every Sunday beginning Jan. 13 - May 5. Each week a different instructor will share the lesson, including Westminster Associate Professor of Religion Dr. Kang Na.  More information is available at www.perspectives.org.

Environmental programs events:
  • Westminster College and the Slippery Rock Watershed Coalition (SRWC) are sponsoring the 2012 Student Symposium on the Environment Dec. 6 from 5:30-9 p.m. in the Witherspoon Rooms and Mueller Theater in the McKelvey Campus Center. The event will showcase environmental projects done by students in the region.

  • Westminster Counseling Services and the Health Center will be hosting Pause for Paws Dec. 7 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in Berlin Lounge. Students and staff are invited take a break from the stress of the day and visit with some adorable four-legged friends.

Scholarships/Extra Cash Available:
  • The Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship Program for the Winter/Spring 2013 semester includes two (2) $10,000 scholarships and four (4) $5,000 scholarships, to be awarded to undergraduate and graduate students with a declared major of biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related life-science field. To qualify for the scholarship, students must have a GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and be enrolled in an accredited college for university for the Winter/Spring 2013 semester. Students may apply for the scholarship through the Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship website. Applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. CT on December 14, 2012.  All questions regarding the scholarship may be directed to Ariel Rangel at ariel.rangel@thermofisher.com.

Sorority Recruitment 2013 Sign-ups:
  • The sign-ups will take place in the TUB in McKelvey Campus Center Dec. 6 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Dec. 5 and Dec. 7 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., and again Dec. 7 from 4:30-6 p.m. Cost is $20.00. If you miss your chance, there will be another sign-up Dec. 10 from 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. in Student Affairs.


Melting Snowmen Oreo Cookie Balls
from allrecipes.com


24 Winter Oreo Cookies, divided
3 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
9 ounces white chocolate, melted
Assorted colored decorating gels


1. Crush 9 cookies finely; mix with cream cheese until blended. Shape into 15 balls.
2. Place remaining cookies on waxed paper-covered rimmed baking sheet. Dip balls in chocolate; place on cookies. Tap cookies on baking sheet several times to allow excess chocolate to pool onto tops of cookies. Decorate with gels to resemble snowmen.
3. Refrigerate 1 hour or until firm.
