THE CHARITABLE IRA ROLLOVER EXTENDED!
 

• When Congress passed the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, a special benefit was included extending the Charitable IRA Rollover provision which allows the use of IRA funds for charitable purposes.The donor must be 70.5 years or older
• The gift cannot be more than $100,000
• The gift must be completed by December 31, 2013 to qualify as a 2013 donation
• The charitable distribution counts toward minimum required distributions
• The funds must be transferred directly from the IRA Custodian to Westminster College Consult with your tax professional if you are contemplating a gift under this provision. 

Contact your IRA custodian to transfer your desired gift amount to Westminster College.  The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction.

THEATRE WESTMINSTER PRESENTS BOOK OF DAYS

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH AND PUBLIC RELATIONS TO HOST BLEASBY COLLOQUIUM

The department will host the Bleasby Colloquium Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in Mueller Theater. Olivia Sweeney `11 will present "The First Draft - Editing and Surviving Post Graduation."

COOKING CLASSES TO BENEFIT ROYAL FAMILY KIDS' CAMP

Classes are held once a week Feb. 25 -  March 25 from 7- 9 p.m. at First Assembly of God's Fellowship Hall, 2021 Pulaski Road, New Castle 16105. The classes cost a donation of $50 for all five classes or $12 for individual classes. All proceeds will benefit abused, neglected and abandoned children of Lawrence County.

GIRL SCOUT COOKIES

Girl Scout Cookies will be sold Feb. 26 from 4-6 p.m. in the TUB. Cookies are $4 per box. (Thin Mints, Dos si dos, Tagalongs, Samoas, Trefoils, Thank You Berry Munch, Dulce de leche, and Lemon Savannah Smiles) The cookies are being sold by Troop 10310 fourth grade students from Wilmington Elementary.

SOUP BUFFET

The New Wilmington United Methodist Church will hold a soup buffet Feb. 26 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. They will offer a variety of homemade soups, salads, sandwhiches and desserts for $7.

NATIONAL HISTORY DAY AT WESTMINSTER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY  AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE CALL FOR PAPERS

The department will be hosting the Innovative Strategies in Criminal Justice Symposium April 4-5. This undergraduate symposium will feature individuals working to solve problems in the criminal justice system through the discussion of innovative responses and programs.

The department is seeking paper and poster submissions from Westminster students. If interested, please complete the following: Proposals are due by March 1.

Papers for the paper competition are due by March 15. Registration is due by March 15.The keynote speaker is John Wetzel, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Dept. of Corrections. The Friday lunch speaker is Mark Bergstrom, Executive Director, Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AND ARTS CELEBRATION CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

Westminster College will host its annual Undergraduate Research and Arts Celebration April 24 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.  Students from all disciplines who have engaged in individual scholarly research and creative projects are invited to participate. We welcome students FROM ALL ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES to present their research in the form of a talk or poster, perform music or a scene from a play, or other appropriate forms of creative expression. This event is intended for participation by Westminster students only.

Students can complete the application on My.Westminster.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie
from allrecipes.com

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1 egg yolk
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets or line with parchment paper.
2. Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
3. In a medium bowl, cream together the melted butter, brown sugar and white sugar until well blended. Beat in the vanilla, egg, and egg yolk until light and creamy. Mix in the sifted ingredients until just blended. Stir in the chocolate chips by hand using a wooden spoon. Drop cookie dough 1/4 cup at a time onto the prepared cookie sheets. Cookies should be about 3 inches apart.
4. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges are lightly toasted. Cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
