Audio Visual Services Staff Attended International Roundtable

Two Westminster College Audio Visual Services staff members, Andy Borts and Nicole Jodikinos, attended the InfoComm International roundtable May 23 in Pittsburgh.

InfoComm International is the leading nonprofit association serving the professional AV communications industry worldwide.  The seminar focused on the future of the industry and included discussion of issues that impact colleges, universities, and businesses daily.  Topics included manufacturing training sessions on digital projection and audio; LED technology; audio video bridging (AVB); and maximizing an organization's performance through operation strategies.

Psychology Professor Published in Journal

Dr. Sandra Webster, Westminster College professor of psychology, is the co-author of "Sustaining Success: 40 Years of the Western Pennsylvania Undergraduate Psychology Conference" (WPUPC) published in the summer issue of CUR Quarterly, a publication of the Council on Undergraduate Research.

Co-author with Webster is Dr. Aimee Knupsky, assistant professor of psychology at Allegheny College in Meadville, who has served as chair of the WPUPC Steering Committee since 2010.

Field Station to Host Marcellus Shale Water Quality Workshop

The Westminster College Field Station will host a Marcellus shale water quality workshop Saturday, June 30, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The workshop is presented by the Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring (ALLARM), a nationally-recognized technical support center for communities interested in monitoring the quality of their waterways.

College to Celebrate Independence Day with Concert and Fireworks July 3

Friday, June 15, 2012
Westminster College will host an old-fashioned Independence Day celebration with a free concert and fireworks Tuesday, July 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Brittain Lake.

Gene DeCaprio will serve as master of ceremonies for the 23rd annual concert featuring the River City Brass Band playing a variety of selections, with an emphasis on patriotic music. Additional music will be provided by the Pittsburgh Firefighters Memorial Pipers Band and vocalists Kathy Mansell and recent Westminster graduate Ali Pabrinkis.  A color guard from the Pennsylvania National Guard will present the flag.

Biology Major Earns Robinson Award

Chelsea Loub, a Westminster College senior biology major, is one of 12 students nationwide who received a 2012 Samuel Robinson Award from the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

The award is open to Presbyterian students completing their junior or senior year at a Presbyterian-related college or university.  It was created from a gift made to promote the memorization of the Westminster Shorter Catechism from The Book of Confessions.

First Book Westminster Raised Funds, Distributed Free Books

First Book Westminster raised $1,700 for new, free books for distribution to children in Lawrence and Mercer counties during the 2011-2012 academic year.

Under the leadership of First Book President Katie Tomko, Vice President Amanda Leonard, and Secretary Dana Flick, the student organization awarded money for new books to Walker Neighborhood House's after-school program in New Castle and the Royal Family Kids' Camp for neglected and abused children.

Recent Graduate Received Award from Chemical Society

Ashley Blystone, a Westminster College May graduate in chemistry, received a cash award from the Society of Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh at its annual awards banquet May 16 at Duquesne University.

The annual award is given to an outstanding senior chemistry major based on accomplishments in undergraduate chemistry, chemistry-related projects, and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
