AV Staff Experiences Behind the Scenes Tour of CONSOL Energy Center

Kelly Matune, senior public relations major and AV PR and Operations manager, has accepted a job as Account Coordinator with TrueSense Marketing in Freedom, Pa. She will be working in a team of three people that will manage the marketing and donor relations for a branch of a non-profit. TrueSense Marketing is a direct response marketing and fundraising agency that does work specifically for non-profit organizations. Ronald McDonald House and The Salvation Army are just some of the non-profits that for which she could end up coordinating marketing and public relations efforts.

AV Services Spring E-recycling Drive Sets New Record

Green AV, a volunteer division of Westminster College Audio Visual Services, received 13,133 pounds of recycled electronics at their most recent E-recycling drive on April 20, 2013 at the Hoyt Science Center Loading Dock, slightly besting their previous record drive in spring of 2012 and bringing the total weight of recycled e-waste from the bi-annual drives to over 70,000 pounds.

Nominations are being taken now for this year's Audio Visual Award. In 1999, Audio Visual Services created the Audio Visual Award to provide public recognition of the exceptional work being provided to the campus through Audio Visual's work study students. An annual ballot of nominees is reviewed by a panel of current employees, faculty, staff, administration, and alumni of the college and one individual's work is selected as "most outstanding." Each year's winner is announced prior to the start of spring finals.

E-recycling Drive set for April 20th at Westminster College

Westminster's Audio Visual department will host its 8th biannual E-Recycling Drive on Saturday, April 20th from 9 am-noon at the Hoyt Science Resources Center Loading Dock. Through the signing of House Bill #708, the Covered Device Recycling Act (CDRA), Pennsylvania has made it easier for consumers to recycle old technology. In addition, as of January, 2013, Pennsylvania law makes it illegal for certain technology items to be placed on the curb to be thrown away. (Please note: Fees still apply to businesses and organizations.)

Great Strides Walk set for May 19th at Moraine State Park

The Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation is hosting Great Strides: Taking Steps to Cure Cystic Fibrosis Walks nationwide on Sunday, May 19, to raise funds for research and awareness. It is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's largest national fundraising event. In 2012, nearly $40 million was raised to help support life-saving research, quality care, and education programs.

Smith, Kohler earn National Librarianship Award for FYO Golf Event

Savanna Adams, freshman Public Relations major and daughter of Joseph and Tracie Adams, comes from Brookfield, Ohio.
Chelsey Isler, sophomore Criminal Justice and Psychology major and daughter of Katrina Isler, comes from New Castle, Pennsylvania.
Amanda Muraca, freshman Accounting major and daughter of Anthony and Sharon Muraca, comes from New Castle, Pennsylvania.
Danielle Vance, sophomore English major and daughter of Joanne and Steve Vance, comes from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Art and music enthusiast Savanna was attracted to the AV position because she wanted to gain professional knowledge while still in college. "I thought that this would be a good opportunity to gain some skills and meet more great people," said Savanna. In her free time, Savanna enjoys going to concerts, doing crafty projects, hanging out with her brother, Reed, and singing karaoke with her friends.

AV Staff Participate in Two Las Vegas Conferences

AV Services Director, Gary Swanson, and AV Instructional Media Technician, Andrew Borts, attended two conferences on one trip recently. Tech Oasis, a Consortium of College and University Media Centers (CCUMC) conference from October 3-7, 2012 where the two led a roundtable discussion on Westminster's Titan Digital Signage project, and the National Media Market, a selective showcase of the top educational media distributors, held near the same location on October 3rd. Tech Oasis took place at the Tropicana Las Vegas and was hosted by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

iPads Adding to Westminster College Preschool Experience

Consequently, the average person might be unaware of these resources and is more likely to disregard "green" practices than to seek them out. In light of this need, AV Services has created the Online Campus Recycling Database as part of the AV website. This resource provides a single, useful point of reference for all of these worthy initiatives. The website will both promote current initiatives and provide alternatives for services not currently provided on Westminster's campus.
