Three Westminster College teams participating in The Business Strategy Game placed in the Top 100 with one team scoring best performance worldwide for the week ending May 6.
"Team Banana Cana" - Joshua Bradley, Jennifer Louth, and Meghan Zaczkiewicz - earned top honors worldwide for their 89.4% return on average equity. The team also earned the 26th best stock price performance and 50th best in earnings per share for the week.
Morgan Gerlach and Jeffrey McCarren, working as "Team A Shoe Company," captured 17th best return on average equity, 77th best stock price performance, and 90th best earnings per share.
William Lucas and Amber Pecora, "Team Corporation, Inc.," had the 53rd best return on average equity for the week.
This is the second time Team Banana Cana earned Top 100 honors, with a total of four teams that have ranked in the Top 100 this semester.
These and seven additional teams are students in two classes taught by Dr. Jacque King, Westminster assistant professor of business.
"The excellent work of these teams to cast a long-term mission and vision; determine a strategy and execute it properly; and persevere through the ups and downs of global exchange rates speaks highly of their business savvy to navigate through tumultuous market conditions," King said.
The week's competition involved 1,950 teams from 149 colleges and universities around the world. Each week, the best-performing teams are measured on four performance variables: overall score (current year), earnings per share, return on average equity, and stock price.
The Business Strategy Game is an online exercise where class members are divided into teams and assigned the task of running an athletic footwear company in competition against companies managed by other class members. Company operations parallel those of actual athletic footwear companies who compete in a global market, selling athletic footwear in four geographic regions-Europe-Africa, North America, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.
All aspects of The Business Strategy Game parallel the functioning of the real-world athletic footwear market, allowing students to think rationally and logically in making decisions and receive valuable practice in making a variety of business decisions under circumstances that mirror real-world competitive conditions.
