Wednesday, January 8, 2014

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College Celebrity Series will present a Valentine's Day themed concert featuring Jim Brickman at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in Orr Auditorium. The concert is a part of what Brickman calls "The Love Tour."

Brickman, a native of Shaker Heights, Ohio, is the most commercially successful instrumental pop pianist of the last two decades. Four of his albums have been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America - 1995's By Heart, 1997's Picture This and The Gift, and 1999's Destiny - for sales of more than 500,000 copies. Overall, he's sold more than seven million albums, earned two Grammy Award nominations, and received numerous awards and accolades.

He's amassed 27 Top 40 singles on the adult contemporary charts, including 14 Top 10 smashes. His collaboration with soaring country songstress Martina McBride, titled "Valentine," scored at mainstream country radio in 1998, peaking at number nine. Other Brickman staples include "Simple Things" with Rebecca Lynn Howard, "Peace" and "The Gift," both with Collin Raye and Susan Ashton, "Never Alone" with Lady Antebellum, and "Love of My Life" with Michael W. Smith. He has also collaborated with Kenny Loggins, Carly Simon, Michael Bolton, Donny Osmond, and Olivia Newton-John.

Brickman's music is for soothing the aches of daily life and has become the soundtrack while delivering a baby, taking a bubble bath, enduring chemo therapy, lulling your little one to sleep, dancing with daddy at the wedding and falling in love again. "This is more than just ‘I love that hit song'," Brickman said. "It's the experience.  I want the music to be a constant part of their lives."

Brickman's concert will be one of the most entertaining and romantic concerts of the year when he blends mood and music to bring musical intimacy and compelling storytelling to this special Valentine's show.

This is a special show presented by Celebrity Series and is not part of the regular season ticket.

Tickets, starting at $32, are available from the Celebrity Series box office at 724-946-7354.  Visit www.westminster.edu/celebrity for additional information.
