“’Faces
of Black History’” is a live musical show that acknowledges the contributions
of African Americans to America,” said the Rev. Jeannette Hooks, director
of diversity services at Westminster College. “The show salutes many
well-known celebrities, personalities, and history makers in an entertaining
and educational format for all ages. They will take the audience
on a high energy excursion through African American culture saluting many
celebrities such as Aretha Franklin, Bessie Smith, Mahalia Jackson, Ottis
Redding, and others.”
“The members
of the ‘Sounds of Zion’ have starred in the off-Broadway musical ‘Your
Arms Too Short to Box with God,’ and performed with Cissy Houston, Melba
Moore, Tramaine Walker, Hezekiah Walker and the Love Fellowship Choir,
and others,” Hooks said. “They were first-place winners in the McDonald’s
Gospelfest 2001 and 2002, and performed during the half-time show for the
McDonald’s All-Star High School Basketball game at Madison Square Garden.”
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Hooks at (724) 946-7179 or e-mail hooksj@westminster.edu.
