The Titan Card serves as a student’s library card. The circulation or lending of books is a computerized operation. It requires the presentation of a current, valid ID card. Borrowers are responsible for all items issued on their library cards.  Titan Cards which are lost, stolen, or broken must be replaced at the Titan Card Office. To replace a LOST Titan card requires the payment of a $15.00 fee; to replace a damaged Titan card requires the payment of a $5.00 fee.

Books may be borrowed for a four week period during Fall and Spring Semester except at the end of a semester when the  loan period varies.  Materials must be borrowed directly from the library where they are located. Materials must be returned to the library from which they were borrowed. If a title is needed which is already in circulation, a borrower may place a reserve request on the title. When that item is returned, the requestor will be notified that the book has been returned and is available for his/her use. Fines are assessed for material that is not returned on or before the date it is due. Fine rates are posted at the circulation desk in each Library.

Each year loss of books and periodicals from theft and mutilation in the College libraries seriously undermines free access to library materials. Few library users realize how expensive it is to replace stolen and damaged materials. Permanent damage to a collection results from the loss of irreplaceable items. But what is worse, many users experience the frustration - even despair - of discovering that the information they seek is denied them because the page on which it appears has been torn from a periodical, or the specific book they need is missing from the shelf and presumed lost or stolen. This happens despite the availability of photocopiers in the Libraries and a generous loan period. It also happens despite the risk of prompt and severe punishment that violators face when caught.

You can help us protect library materials by reporting individuals who mutilate them to a member of the staff. You can help by being patient with the electronic devices we have installed at the exit to detect theft. By being responsible and by being aware of the problem you can help us protect library materials so they can be shared for the good of everyone at Westminster College.

The College Libraries' resources belong to all users, present and future, but the collection is in danger of damage from heavy use and/or carelessness.

Food and drink pose a threat to library materials and furnishings. No food is allowed in the
Libraries and only beverages with lids are permitted.

Of equal concern is the noise level. Talking should be kept to a minimum. When you do need to work together, group study rooms are available on the second floor. However, there are no group study areas available in Mack Library. When you must speak, speak in a voice which can only be heard within 12 inches. This is of particular concern during class instruction within the library.

Please join in the effort to improve the environment in the College Libraries.
