The 2014 Westminster cross country teams are led by eighth-year head coach Tim McNeil '96. The men's team finished fourth at the 2013 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships, while the women's team placed seventh.
The men's team was picked to finish fourth in the PAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, while the women's team was picked to finish fifth.
The men's team returns three lettermen from a season ago, led by sophomores Matt Slagle and John-Scott Somora who finished second and fourth, respectively, at the 2013 PACs. Sophomore Neil Christopher rounds out the returning letterwinners.
"The men's team lost quite a few talented runners to graduation, but return Slagle and Somora who placed well at the PACs," McNeil said. "Newcomers junior Chase Whelan and freshman Trevor Arrigoni will really help the team this year. The men's team will not have a senior returning letterman competing, but that will allow for some young talent to take on a leadership role."
Senior Jenny Jones, a three-time All-PAC honoree, is among four of the returning letterwinners for the women's team. Jones placed 11th at the 2013 PACs with a career-best PAC Championship time of 23:29.50.
"Jones hopes to capitalize on a really strong finish to the track & field season and will lead a lot of new and talented girls into the PAC," McNeil said.
The other returning letterwinners are sophomore Keilah Ireland, junior Sara Monts, and sophomore Jenny Rodgers.
"Our women's team looks to bounce back from a disappointing 2013 finish," added McNeil. "With many newcomers, the women's team could field one of the faster teams we have had in the last few years."
