Women's Basketball: Titans Win Third-Straight; Top Bethany, 69-63

BETHANY, W. Va. - The Westminster College women's basketball team won its third-straight game with a 69-63 win at Bethany on Wednesday.

Westminster (5-6, 2-2 PAC), who never trailed in the game, led 17-10 in the first half with 12:30 on the clock. Bethany (3-9, 2-3 PAC) responded with a 9-2 run to tie it 19-19 (the game's only tie) with 8:43 remaining before halftime.  Westminster regrouped and took its largest lead of the half when junior Allison Borts (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) found senior Gabby Holko (Pittsburgh, PA / Mt. Alvernia) for a three-pointer, giving the Titans a 42-31 lead with 1:25 left. Westminster was in front, 44-37, at intermission.

Westminster maintained the lead in the second half and led by as much as 16 points when freshman Shelby Brown (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) found junior Jenna Grandy (Sharpsville, PA / Sharpsville) for a three-pointer, giving the Titans a 68-52 lead with 3:57 on the clock. The Bison rallied with an 11-1 run to end the game.

For the game, the Bison out-shot the Titans 45.8% (22-48) to 41.4% (24-58), while Westminster held a 38-27 rebound advantage.

Three Titans scored in double digits, led by Holko with 19 points. Senior Hannah Shaffer (Apollo, PA / Apollo-Ridge) and Borts added 13 and 11 points, respectively. Freshman Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lovellville) and Grandy contributed nine points each. Shaffer led on the glass with a game-high eight boards, followed by Borts with seven. Shaffer and Borts also had a game-high three steals each.

Sami Schott led Bethany with a game-high 20 points and tied teammate Mikyla Tipton for a team-high six rebounds.

Westminster will host Waynesburg on Saturday at 2 p.m.
