Saturday, October 26, 2013

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's soccer team handed Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Grove City its first conference loss of the season as the Titans won, 3-1, at Harold Burry Stadium. Westminster scored three goals in the final 25 minutes to secure the win.

The Titan win marks their first against Grove City since 2007. It is also the first time Westminster has scored against the Wolverines since 2008.

Westminster improved to 10-5-2 overall and 5-0-2 in the PAC, while the Wolverines dropped to 9-7-1 overall and 6-1 in the conference.

The Wolverines had a 1-0 lead when Leah Wilt scored at 14:31 in the first half. The score remained the same at halftime.

Titan senior Amanda Turi (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) scored the first of the three goals for Westminster at 64:58. Junior Kerri Inzinga (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) scored the eventual game-winner after she received a corner kick pass from senior Jordan Steele (Falconer, NY / Falconer Central) with 71:24 on the clock. A Wolverine own goal added insurance for Westminster with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation.

Westminster sophomore goalie Maddy Frech (Leechburg, PA / Kiski Area) earned the win and improved to 5-4-1 on the season. Frech had four saves in a complete-game effort.

The Titans will travel to Thomas More on Wednesday with a starting time of 3:30 p.m.
