Volleyball: Titans Place Second at Blue Devil Invitational

FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Westminster College volleyball team placed second in the Blue Devil Invitational after two straight-set wins on Saturday. Westminster went 3-1, the only one loss team, in the two-day tournament and is now 18-5 overall. On Saturday, Westminster shutout Hilbert (25-20,25-14,25-16) in game one and La Roche (25-23,25-12,25-20) in the nightcap.

Titan senior Lexi Starheim (Hubbard, OH / Hubbard) was named on the All-Tournament team. In four matches, Starheim had team-highs 28 kills and 11 blocks, while adding nine digs and three service aces.

Against Hilbert, junior Kassie Freyermuth (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) led the Titan offense with nine kills, followed by Rebecca Riemer (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon), Starheim, and classmate Megan Romocean (Ravenna, OH / Southeast) with eight, seven, and six kills, respectively. Senior Claire Ferrando (North Jackson, OH / Western Reserve) led three Titans who had double-figure digs with a match-high 18. Junior Julie Powell (Meadville, PA / Meadville) and senior Chrissy Volsko (Canfield, OH / Austintown Fitch) added 13 and 12 digs, respectively. Starheim led Westminster with four blocks. Senior Katie Palkovic (Camp Hill, PA / Trinity) dished-out a team-high 25 assists.

In game two against La Roche, Powell led with a double-double that included a match-high 11 kills and 14 digs. Riemer and sophomore Megan Prybyl (Mars, PA / North Catholic) added nine and eight kills, respectively. Starheim and Freyermuth added seven kills each. Ferrando once again led the defense with a match-high 19 digs, while Prybyl contributed with 12. Palkovic had a game-high 31 assists.

Westminster will travel to Bethany on Wednesday with a starting time of 7 p.m.
